PostHeaderIcon What is the Formula 1 Car Racing?

F1 car racing is another name for the Formula 1 car racing circuit. Some people mistake it for Indy one because of the similarity f1_car_panasonic_racing_tf107_07_1in the looks of the cars. However, this is a different class of sport and the regulations and rules are quite different. The highest class available in open-wheel racing is Formula 1.

This designation was made by the Federation Internationale de l’Automobile, or FIA. The FIA is the governing body over all types of car racing sports internationally. The term “formula” relates to the qualifications that the FIA has for a driver and an automobile to be allowed to participate in this circuit. There are many rules and regulations.

The Formula One circuit is made up of street car racing, which is referred to as the Grand Prix. One thing that is distinctly different about the Formula 1 racing circuit is that there are two championships at the end of the circuit: one for the automobile constructors and one for the drivers.

A race of this type is generally held on a specially built car race track or on a roadway. The road races are perhaps the most popular of the Formula 1 races; the most widely known being the Monaco Grand Prix.

Formula 1 racing involves vehicles that are modified for optimal performance. The speed that can be obtained in one of these cars can reach 360 mph. On corners, at high speeds, g-force is experienced. The constructors of the cars are members of the car racing team and they must follow a certain set of rules when putting the cars together; however, they are allowed some leeway to modify the aerodynamics, electronics, tires, and suspension to improve performance on the track.

Each of the Formula 1 car racing vehicles is considered to be a single seater. This means that there is no room provided for more than one seat, unlike the stock cars. There are a total of ten teams and twenty drivers each year who compete in the circuit. The designated engine suppliers for the 2008 season are Toyota, Honda, Ferrari, BMW, Mercedes and Renault. Bridgestone has the contract on the tires for the 2008 racing season. More information about this particular type of sports auto racing can be found at “Formula1″.

Individuals have loved the competition of “the race” for as long as there have been vehicles to race. Even before there were motor vehicles, if there were animals to pull the mode of transportation, then the “race was on.” We have all heard of the great chariot races of the times of the Roman Empire.

Man has evolved to sports car racing throughout the years and today it is one of the most popular sports. With the invention of the motor vehicle, man not only gained a new form of transportation but also a new way to race and stir up more competition.

The very first one that was held in the U.S. took place on November 28th, in the year 1895. The race was held in the city of Evanston, Illinois and was only a little over 54 miles. The whole race took over ten hours to finish.

This was just the start of what evolved into the automobile racing phenomenon of today. Since the time of the first automobile auto racing competition, fans have continued to flock to the car race track venues to show their support for their favorite driver and share in the thrill of the race.

If you are a fan of sports auto racing, then you already know that there are many different types of sports car racing that fans can enjoy. Enjoying competition racing does not have to begin when an individual reaches adulthood. There are many different types of competitions that children and younger individuals can take part in, as either fans or participants.

Go-kart racing is very popular with children and can bring about a large amount of competition for both the children and their parents. Rc car racing is another huge favorite, but is not limited to only children. Many adults love to build and race rc vehicles. Other types of racing that draws in fans of all ages are the stock car race, Indy car racing and even the street car race.

There are many different types of sports car racing for fans to enjoy. Each different type brings something different to the world of racing. Sprint automobile racing and Indy car racing bring speed and thrills and of course the endurance that the drivers must have.

PostHeaderIcon Sports Car Racing - How to Get Started

So you want to race your car?

That’s great, but you need some information before jumping in. There are many things to consider from what type of car, what type of tracks, what your budget etc is. The most important things to start with are what your budget is. Both the up-front budget to acquire/build a car, and secondly your ongoing annual budget. Once you have your budget defined, you will need to determine what kind of racing you want to do. There are several large racing organizations around the US, with SCCA and NASA being two of the largest. There are also racing groups around particular marquees, like BMW CCA Club Racing, Porsche Club Racing etc. Lastly there are many regional groups like Midwest Council Sport Car Club.

In each of these organizations, they all have a GCR ( General Competition Rules ), which is what you need to read cover to cover before doing anything. This is where most folks go down the wrong path. They decide they want to race, go buy a car of their liking, buy a bunch of go fast goodies, bolt them on, and they contact the racing organizations. They show up, are ready to race, and then find out that they can’t do much as their car is full of non-allowed modifications. In the GCR, you must first find that class that you wish to drive in. They all typically have various classes from a Stock (or Stock like), to full out Mod (highly modified) cars. This typically will also increase the spend.

Once you have your class defined, the next step is finding the right car. Depending on your motivations, there are different ways to look at this. If you want to win, do some research to find out what cars are dominating the classes and go for one of those. If you want a particular model, then find where that model fits, and build/buy to that. Note that not all cars are guaranteed to be competitive in all classes…usually just the opposite.

I would highly recommend finding the online forums for whatever group you wish to run with, and get active. Read what other active racers are saying, ask questions, learn about the group. One big mistake that we see a lot of folks do is everyone thinks they can build a car cheaply for racing. This just cannot be done. I would highly recommend looking to buy a pre-built proven car over building one nearly every time. Building a car is typically 2-3 times more expensive than buying a built sorted car. This was just a very small primer on racing. Hard to go into all the important areas but the biggest items are to define clearly what you want to get from racing, what you want to spend, and where you want to do it. Armed with this info, you can more easily pick your organization, class, and car that you wish to race.

PostHeaderIcon Cricket Hall of Fame Inducts First Female

aIn the fall of 2005, the Cricket Hall of Fame held it’s annual Induction Ceremony, which included the recognition of Barbados native Barbara P. Lindo. Best known for her work in the community of Hartford and other outstanding contributions to the sport of cricket, Lindo became the first woman to be inducted in the Cricket Hall of Fame. In addition, this honor will also mark the first occasion that a husband and wife team will be in the Cricket Hall of Fame. Lindo’s husband, Cyrus, was an earlier inductee.sport

The location for the historical ceremony was the Marriott Hotel, Adriaen’s Landing in downtown Hartford. On October 1, 2005, an impressive list of former international cricket stars were inducted in addition to Lindo. Among them, the former West Indies fast bowler, Andy Roberts and Indian leg-spinner Bhagwat Chandrasekhar. Roberts is known for being a very intelligent cricketer and, during one point in his career, set the then-record for being the quickest cricketer as he took less than two and a half years to reach 100 Test wickets. Chandrasekhar, on the other hand, remains India’s largest match winner overseas with 42 wickets in only five tests. Unpredictable at times, it is said that no other cricketer was more likely to deliver an unplayable ball. In addition, popular West Indian cricket journalist Tony Becca joined the hall. Becca recently retired as Sports Editor for the Gleaner newspaper and is one of the most celebrated writers in the Carribean region.

Two other cricket personalities, Alvin “Al” Watson of Hartford/Florida and Carlyle Miller of New York was also inducted for outstanding contributions to the sport of cricket in the United States.

In every sport, just as with cricket, the Hall of Fame serves as a permanent structure used to celebrate the accomplishments of the sport’s most outstanding players and contributors. Often a popular tourist attraction, Halls of Fame are known for both their historic value, many photo opportunities and a place for fans to gather as their favorite cricket legends are forever inducted into history.

As females continue their increasing participation in sports and in history, Barbara P. Lindo achieved yet another milestone in the world of cricket and history in general. Her induction marks a precedent that will be set for other women who need encouragement and will find that in Lindo’s accomplishments and recognition.
